TELESCOPIC NATURE PHOTOS!
Several months ago, my dad and I went to a trail right behind the San Carlos Airport, where a good amount of wildlife seemed to flock. We brought along a telescope, and shot some pics.
Photographer: Garett Thomas.

The entrance. Tada! |
It's at the tail end of a street in San Carlos that's right by the town's airport, plus the Burger King, Postini, and Mark Logic. |
Ooo, a telephone pole. |
Zap! |
Kinda like a really big bog or swamp in parts... |
|
Dad in the distance, setting up the telescope. |
Telescope: rear view. |
Telescope: front view. (Plus Dad.) |
Now set up, you can see the telescope being looked through in the distance here, in an altering focus shot series. |
|
|
Flowers 'n' geese. Alter your focus a lot and see the world! |
Can you see the bumble bee? |
Here's the first set of images I shot through the telescope, eventually being successful in seeing beyond the black circle. However, all of our telescopic images were inverted, like a mirror. These are of an egret. |

Here's the only image of me, with windblown hair. |
In the distance was the harbor. From the harbor was where I saw the 4th of July fireworks last year. |
Right by the harbor was a turkey vulture! You can't see it very well, but it's red head is distinguishable in at least one of these shots. |
Telescopic crow, out of focus. Fault of the telescope, not the camera. |
|
|
Benches! |
Sign. Basically read, "No Pedestrians past this point." |
Cacti along the sign's fence. |
The San Carlos Airport, with Larry Ellison's Oracle in the distance. |
The sole plane I was able to shoot in focus, though there were many more. |
|
Canada Geese. |
The geese through the telescope. |
Lovely garbage. It's sadly part of reality, so it must be shown. |
We were probably being spied on multiple times by these people... We were merely taking photographs of wildlife in an area designated for pedestrians to be in! The second spy guy was not very inconspicuous. |
|
|
Mustardesque plant. Right in front of it was a cloud of tiny insects, maybe mosquitos or gnats. |
The small trail was aligned with all sorts of vegetation, some of which appeared to be like a secret garden. Yay, green foliage! |
The salt mines, which were part of the location years ago for filming Brave New World. |
Packin' up with our bird book. |
