HALF MOON BAY & UNEXPECTED TRAGEDY
Back in March, my parents and I visited Blufftop Coastal Park in Half Moon Bay, which two of my movies were previously filmed at. It's a pretty little coastal spot, with trail and beach. However, when we got there, the Coast Guard was apparently searching for a missing surfer, and his body was found in the midst of our visit. Sad, making this particular trip bittersweet. And so our trip begins in Half Moon Bay. |
Still in the car, this particular beach is right alongside the highway. I'm showing the dude in the wetsuit early on, because the body found later that day was also in one. |
Now, we're at Blufftop Coastal Park. Here's looking over some ice plants toward Poplar Beach. |
It was mighty windy that day, illustrated by the use of a kite. |
The first sign of something out of the ordinary was this red helicopter, which circled back and forth for at least half an hour, apparently searching for the missing person. |
|
Meanwhile, we continued our trip on the trail. It had recently rained, so many puddles existed along our trail. |
Many benches did, too. We could still see that kite from our elevated path. |
The wind shaped my hair that day... So windy... |
More puddles, more benches. My dad is taking pictures in the middle shot, and on the right, you can see an ambulence pulling up into the parking lot. Once we saw the flashing lights, we knew something was wrong. |

At Blufftop Coastal Park, the walking path was alongside a horse trail! More than just a sign was representative of horses; the real things were there! |
At this point, water vehicles came into play, suggesting to me (particularly through the jetskis) that the body had been found. Lifeguards, most certainly. |

This is the fence that divides the walking path and the horse trail. It's also what the birds perch upon. |
Either a marsh or a pond, it sits in front of part of the fence. |
The Birds. |
Fly Away Home. |
Toward the end of the route, mi papa approaches a cop car. |
|
A police SUV, found in the same parking lot as the ambulence, was highly indicative of a terrible occurrence. |
View of waves. |
We saw a dolphin! My mom's looking through some binoculars toward the water in search for the dolphin, though many other people were looking for a different reason: the surfer's body had been found. |
This is a shot of a California State Park Truck heading toward the body and police. I'm not including a photo of the body directly in this gallery, but if you'd like to proceed with caution to see it, click here. |

By this point, we've left Blufftop, and started heading toward Mavericks, but not for the beach. Instead, it was for a restaurant... |
Specifically, it was for Barbara's Fish Trap. They're great, they're fast, and they have a "to-go" line outside! |
Still in Half Moon Bay, here are some random pics. This suburban community is labeled, "Save the Strip," implying some portion might be demolished. |
The Birds, Part 2! |
Eucalypti? Eucalyptuses? Eucalypectomy? Youcalyptoid? Well, it's the last shot, whatever you'd like to call it. |
